We will meet you in the arrival hall. We will have your name on a white board. From there we go directly to our office and do the paperwork. Our office is 5 min drive from airport.

Reykjavik area - Any Hotel, guesthouse or Airbnb for expl
We will bring the rental car to you at any address you provide and do the paperwork there.

Keflavik area - Any Hotel, guesthouse or Airbnb for expl
We will pick you up at your address and drive you to our Keflavik office.

Valid driving license (same applies to additional drivers).

Credit card (If you don´t have a credit card you can rent a car using a debit card, we take a deposit on the debit card)

No deposit is taken on your card at start of the rental.

Yes, if you don´t have a credit card you can rent a car with debit card only.

We take a deposit on the debit card for the deductible of the SCDW insurance, 120.000 ISK total.

Deposit is then returned after the rental if everything is ok with the car and there are no unpaid fees for the use of the car, parking fees or toll fees for example.

If you also add our Zero Excess option we only take a 30.000 ISK deposit. Deposit is then returned after the rental if there are no unpaid fees for the use of the car, parking fees or toll fees for example.

Yes, you can use our services, even if you have a foreign driver's license. We accept all foreign driver´s license as long as they are valid and can be read by our staff members (in english or at least with latin characters).

If not make sure to bring an International Driver´s License or Translation.

Renter must be at least 18 years old.

There is not a minimum rental period.

Yes, you can add as many drivers as you need. Three options for that:

1. When making the booking put in the message box how many extra drivers you want to add.

2. After making the booking send us an email and we will add the additional drivers to your reservation.

3. Add the additional drivers at our office when we do the rental contract.

Each additional driver is 4.500 ISK total. (3rd, 4th or 5th driver)

All our cars will have spiked Winter/Snow tires from 31st of October until the 15th of April.

No, you only need to have a valid drivers license when you pick up the car.

We offer 24/7 emergency breakdown assistance which means you can call our emergency line every day, 24 hours a day. We also have service partners all around the country if something breaks down or if something has to be replaced. If you have an accident or if the car breaks down we will of course replace the car with another one.

All our cars are thoroughly inspected and maintained between rentals to ensure safe and problem free rental experience. In the event of an accident or break down, regardless of circumstance and location, we will do our best to replace the car with another vehicle of similar standard or better as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that if an assistance is required because of a breakdown or damage that is the driver´s responsibility Star Car Rental will charge the renter a service fee. This fee is of course not charged if the assistance can be traced to a breakdown or damage on Star Car Rental´s responsibility.

Included in the rental price:

SCDW insurance lowers the Excess (Self risk) for damages down to:

120.000 ISK total unless you have the Zero Excess option.

Included in the rental price:

GP includes damages to headlights and the car when gravel or rocks get thrown on the vehicle by another car, Excess (Self risk) amount is 0 ISK.

Excess (Self risk) amount for broken windshield is 15.000 ISK total unless you also have the Zero Excess option.

Included in the rental price:

TP covers theft of the rental vehicle.

Third party Liability Insurance is mandatory in Iceland and is included with all rentals.

This is our new optional insurance which we offer and is the only insurance not included in the price.

For our customers protection we have decided to offer an insurance which covers our customers against damage due to sand and ash storm which damages the paint of the car, windows, lights and plastic. These damages can cost between 3000-9000 euro to fix.

We offer the SAAP for only 1.500 ISK per day. Volcano eruptions in the past years have increased the risk of damage to the paint and windows of all cars and no insurance company will cover these damages. In high winds and dry weather the ash from the volcanos and sand in the south coast can cause huge damage to the cars and all the cost has fallen on the renter, until now.

By purchasing SAAP the self risk in case of damage from sand and ash is lowered to 90.000 ISK.

If you also have our Zero Excess option the self risk of the SAAP goes down to 0 ISK.

Renters can also add our Zero Excess for SCDW + SAAP + GP for 3.390 ISK per day

Lowers the excess of these insurances to Zero.

Yes, you can decline any of the included insurances when you make the booking.

Garmin GPS Navigation system.

Huawei 3G/4G mobile WiFi device. It's a small and compact gadget that creates a WiFi hotspot that up to 10 devices can connect to simultaneously. The device has a battery that lasts 12 hours and can be recharged in the car.

Plugs into the lighter socket in the car. Then you can connect regular european electric plug into the Inverter to charge Laptops, cameras for expl.

Sleeping bag is 3.500 ISK Per Rental.

All sleeping bags are professionally cleaned after every rental.

You can send us a e-mail or call our office and let us know that you will be cancelling your booking.

Please include your booking number in all correspondance. We will send you an e-mail back to confirm your cancellation.

If you got the car with a full tank then the car should be returned with a full tank.

Otherwise you should return the car with the same amount of fuel as it was when you received it. The amount will be marked on your rental contract.

Unfortunately no refunds can be given for unused, or partly used, car hire vouchers unless the amendments or cancellations have been made with minimum of 48 hours prior to the pick-up date.

Parking tickets and any traffic violations are the responsibility of the renter who must pay them before returning the vehicle. Congestion charges or fines received by us after the rental will be charged directly to the renter, including a surcharge for late payment, if any.

Vaðlaheiði Tunnel:

There is only one toll road in Iceland and that is Vaðlaheiði tunnel in the north part of the island. The tunnel is located near Icelands second largest city, Akureyri.

Renters that plan on driving through the tunnel will have to pay the toll fee with a card, 1500 ISK total on the website www.tunnel.is

No toll booth or payment machines are located at the tunnel, all payments have to be made through the website either within 3 hours prior or after the trip through the tunnel.

If you are traveling in Iceland during the summer months we recommend that you drive over the Víkurskarð main road for the tunnel only shortens the ring road of about 16 km and driving that way is free of charge.

However if you are traveling in the winter we recommend to use the tunnel for the Víkurskarð main roads can be dangerous and difficult to drive in snow and icy conditions.

National Parks Parking Fees:

Skaftafell and Þingvellir national parks have parking fees and they can be paid in payment machines, booths that are located next to the parking area.

This parking fee can also be paid on the national parks website: https://myparking.is/pay/thingvellir/ or https://myparking.is/pay/skaftafell/

Normal parking fee is 750 ISK total per day.
